A CONVERSATION WITH TASH HAYNES
Meet Tash Haynes, who grew up in foster care without a single photo of herself. She now documents Black family joy for 30k followers so her three daughters never know that kind of invisibility.

Tash Haynes - countering limited representation of Black families online.
"I do not compromise who I am for anyone or anything," she says, partnering only with brands like Penguin Kids and Tacoma Arts Live that align with her values.”

When Tash Haynes was twelve years old, growing up in foster care in the Pacific Northwest, she made a powerful realization while flipping through family photo albums: there were no pictures of her. If her story was going to be told, she would have to tell it herself.
That Christmas, a camera from Treehouse, a Seattle nonprofit dedicated to youth in foster care, became the gift that changed everything. Today, as a mom of three and an influencer with over 30k followers, Haynes has transformed that early lesson into a mission: showcase Black family life with the same authenticity and joy that was missing from her own childhood albums.
Haynes launched her socials in 2019 with a clear purpose: to counter the limited representation of Black families online and present images of joy, love, and familial bonds that reflect her community's lived experience. Similar to discovering Black musicians that made music for Black people, like Beyonce, Haynes found her voice in creating content that represents families who look like hers.
For Haynes, social media isn't just about likes and followers; it's about legacy, representation, and ensuring that her three daughters (ages 5, 7, and 13) will never have to search for themselves in empty photo albums.
